Check the event, not just the venue

A venue name does not tell you who can enter that evening. Read the official event page for age limits, reservations, membership, dress code and whether first-time visitors are accepted. Do not assume that a guide listing guarantees entry.

Prepare accepted identification

Ask which original photo ID is accepted and how any registration data is handled. Keep identification with you; do not send copies to an unverified social account. In Japan, drinking alcohol is prohibited for people under 20. A venue may set stricter entry conditions.

Make communication possible

Ask whether staff can explain the rules in your language. Save the venue’s official instructions before leaving your accommodation. If you cannot understand a condition, ask before paying. You can decide not to enter. Bring a charged phone, your return address and a way to pay for the journey home.
